Introducing Andre Yarbrough, whom “the streets and the music world know as Mu Diamonds”. The 38-year-old rapper from Buffalo, New York, is the “King of Buffalo” and one of the world’s best known paraplegic artists, with songs like “FlexGrind” and “Engaged 2 Da Money” under his belt.
As the eldest of 7 children, and raised by a single mother, Mu Diamonds would often find himself in trouble. At 22 years of age, such events culminated in a serious accident. Andre had been minding his own business when a vehicle drove by, and someone shot him twice. Later he discovered that he was paralyzed from the waist down, pushing him farther from his dreams and forcing him to change his lifestyle. The incident forced Andre to endure six months in the hospital to recover. As Andre got himself accustomed to life in a wheelchair, he expected his friends would visit to see his progress, but no one came to check on him that made him heartbroken. Once he adjusted to life in a wheelchair, Andre would again find himself in trouble for a parole violation. Finally, he wound up in prison. But this time something had changed, and Mu Diamonds realised it was time to move on from a life of crime.
Having faced so many things in life, he still had hope and started from scratch again. Most people in his position would have yielded to depression after facing so many hardships, but Mu Diamonds held a brave front and decided to make the most of what he had. During his time in prison, he developed a hobby of reading books as there was little that he could do. Flipping through hundreds of pages, Andre found himself getting inspired. He picked up a pen and started writing, showing signs of his lyrical talent. And it is where the journey of inspiration started. Mu Diamonds had always known that music was something that interested him and he definitely could rap. So, when it was time to lead a new life, music came as an interesting yet profitable career path. There is quite a funny reasoning behind why Mu Diamonds chose the particular name for his company. “I spelt dynasty with an e and not an a because there’s nothing nasty about me you get it?”, he explains.
